Gluten & lactose free Copenhagen
Copenhagen has some incredible places to happily eat gluten & lactose free - with confidence that they’re really taking it seriously and not going to poison you. It’s such a treat to be able to relax while eating at a restaurant.
Ø.12
Ø.12 is the place for high quality coffee, and nourishing comfort food. Born on Øster Farimagsgade 12B, right in the heart of Copenhagen, we welcome friends, families, travellers and lovers alike, to enjoy elevated brunch classics in a down-to-earth setting.
Il Grappolo Blu
"My goal is to serve authentic Italian food and wonderful wines to my guests. They should feel like they are taking a little piece of my Italy home with them."
Alfredo Franco — Chef
The greatest gluten & lactose free bread & pastries I have ever eaten!
If you went all the way to Copenhagen and did nothing else other than buy everything you can afford at the incredible H.U.G bakery - and then travelled instantly home again - weighed down by magical bread, pastries, brownies & all you can fit into your luggage allowance - it would 100% be worth it!
H.U.G Bageri
Øster Farimagsgade 20, 2100 København, Denmark
If you went all the way to Copenhagen and did nothing else other than buy everything you can afford at the incredible H.U.G bakery - and then travelled instantly home again - weighed down by magical bread, pastries, brownies & all you can fit into your luggage allowance - it would 100% be worth it!
With absolutely no exaggeration whatsoever, they make, without doubt, the most incredible gluten free & lactose free bread and pastries I have ever had the joyful experience of devouring.
It has been at least 25 years (yes, 25 whole actual full years!) since I’ve had a chelsea bun or a pain au chocolat!! I had lost all faith that I might ever eat such wonderous magic ever again, but H.U.G changed all that. My only regret is that I didn’t remortgage the flat to buy literally everything in the bakery!
Here’s a few photos of some of the loaves and rolls I bought - taken back home in London - where, alas, we languish in the doldrums of xanthum gum-laden, chemically enhanced, sugar-fuelled sustenance that we are continually forced to believe is the only viable alternative.
H.U.G - please come to London and save us from ourselves!!
TOP TIP: Get to the bakery for around 9am and you should be able to get yourself a freshly baked, still warm chelsea bun ; )
